Aren’t these Halloween preemie caps adorable?

Ghosts and Goblins! Halloween Preemie Hat Donations from The Preemie Project
Candy, fantasy costumes, visiting neighbors, going out with friends…. Halloween is truly a children’s holiday. But for families of preemies in the NICU this happy celebration seems like a fantasy.
Knit preemie Halloween caps are a special way to bring the Halloween spirit into the NICU for preemie babies and their caregivers. For inspiration, here are a links to some adorable Halloween preemie caps knit by kind-hearted volunteer knitters.
Each year, the caring volunteers at the Preemie Project make preemie Halloween caps and outfits for the preemies in Iowa Children’s Hospital NICU. In 2009, they really showed their creativity with the lively Halloween knit preemie caps shown above.
What a wonderful present for a preemie family! I love the Halloween ghost and goblin idea, especially the eyes on the little preemie knit caps. These tiny caps will keep your preemie warm, but are sure to bring smiles to the preemie family, nurses and doctors in the NICU during Halloween.

Preemie Pumpkin Hats and Booties knit by volunteers of the Preemie Project.
The volunteers at the Preemie Project also created sets matching knit preemie hats and preemie booties in orange and green, with a pumpkin motif. Some of the sets includes preemie onesies decorated for Halloween. You can read about their non-profit preemie donation organization and see their preemie Halloween outfits at the Preemie Project.

Glenda Anderson's Halloween Knit Preemie Caps
Another kindlypreemie knit cap donor, Glenna Anderson, knit this amazing selection of preemie Halloween caps for her hospital’s NICU. Her NICU donation knitting group knits adorable preemie hats with holiday themes throughout the year.
Glenna is a respiratory therapist with training in pediatrics, so she knows the practical aspects of warm preemie caps. Her fun designs show she also understands how uplifting it is to celebrate holidays with preemies in the NICU for both preemie parents and for NICU professionals. Glenda has a lively sense of humor and shares many of her knit cap designs on in the Knitting for the NICU section of her blog.

Ahhh, thanks so much for including me and my group’s work. I do love dem bubbas. Every night I get to work in the NICU I am reminded how unbelievably blessed I am to get to do the job I do. And let me tell you, there is nothing cuter nor sweeter in this world than seeing a 2lb baby look up at you with big eyes from underneath a silly punkin’ hat! They’re just the best!
We’re working on Pilgrim and Turkey hats now for Thanksgiving and then will make Santa hats for every baby in our nursery after that.
Thanks to everyone who knits/crochets for babies–they need us more than most people realize!
